One year while Michael was in NYC with other parishioners from the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, he decided to buy a souvlaki from a nearby vendor. They were there to walk down 5th Avenue in the annual Greek Independence Day parade. Unfortunately for Michael, his priest at that time caught him. To his shock, just as he was about to take his first bite of the delicious smelling souvlaki, he was backhanded so hard that the meat on the stick flew out onto the street.
In the excitement of being in New York and participating in the Greek Independence Day parade, he forgot that he was fasting in preparation for Easter. Luckily for him, his priest, Father Constantine Iliades, was there to remind him. Believe me, this lesson was never forgotten. In fact, Michael loves to talk about it all the time, especially around the time that we should be fasting for communion.
This past Saturday night, our church celebrated its 100-year anniversary. The highlight of his night was in seeing Father Iliades again.
It was so nice to see everyone enjoying them selves and having such a great time.
